A woman arrested for attacking a female she thought was sleeping with her boyfriend won two early court wins when a judge denied the state’s motion to have the defendant detained until trial, and the judge allowed the defendant to post bond.

According to an arrest report, Bradford deputies arrested 23-year-old Brair Stephens after the victim claimed Stephens entered her Whispering Oaks apartment without permission and grabbed her by the hair, dragging her toward some stairs until the victim fought Stephens off.

The victim told deputies that Stephens accused the victim of sleeping with the defendant’s boyfriend, which, according to the victim, is not true.

Stephens told deputies she discovered inappropriate text messages on her boyfriend’s phone, and she went to the victim’s apartment to confront her. Stephens added that when the victim opened her door, she was holding a gun in her hand. The victim denied that claim, and an eyewitness corroborated the victim’s statement.

In a motion to have Stephens detained until trial, prosecutors claimed the 23-year-old was a danger to the community. Judge James M. Colaw denied that motion and allowed Stephens to post a $6,500 bond for release. During first appearance, the defendant was given a $5,000 bond for the battery charge and no bond for burglary with assault or battery.

Stephens was released from jail on June 9.
