Bradford and Keystone Heights high schools each had three players earn first-team honors with the release of the Gainesville Sun’s All-Area and the Florida Times-Union All-First Coast flag football teams.
The Tornadoes’ Nichelle Brown, a recent graduate, was named the Player of the Year by both newspapers (see related story).
Rising Bradford senior Ar’Nayshia Griffin was a first-team Sun All-Area selection and a first-team All-First Coast defensive pick. She had 25 interceptions, which led Class 1A and tied her for second overall in the state regardless of classification.
Griffin, who played quarterback on offense, had approximately 3,300 yards passing, which ranked fourth in Class 1A. She had 33 touchdown passes, which ranked sixth in 1A and rushed for more than 630 yards. Her 17 total touchdowns ranked her eighth in 1A, while her 3,935 total yards were the third most in 1A.
Keystone quarterback Alee Horton, a rising junior, made the Gainesville Sun’s first team after passing for 2,328 yards — the eighth most in 1A. She was third in 1A and 10th in the state overall in rushing yards with 1,109. Horton had eight rushing touchdowns and 26 passing touchdowns, with the passing number ranking eighth in Class 1A. She compiled 3,515 total yards, which were the fifth most in 1A.
Horton received All-First Coast honorable mention.
Riley Shuford, a rising junior at Keystone, was a first-team All-First Coast selection on offense after catching 51 passes for 1,281 yards and 12 touchdowns. Her receiving-yards total was third best in Class 1A and ninth best in the state overall.
Shuford, who was named to the Gainesville Sun’s second team, also made eight interceptions on defense, which ranked 11th in Class 1A.
Recent Keystone graduate Aubre Miller was named to the Sun’s second team after catching 44 passes for 556 yards and six touchdowns.
Bradford rising senior Tatyana Brown was a second-team All-First Coast selection on defense.
