Recent arrests in Bradford, Union and Clay

The following individuals were arrested recently by local law enforcement officers in Bradford, Union or Clay (Keystone Heights-area) counties. All defendants are considered innocent until convicted in a court or until pleading guilty or no contest. Information in this report is from law enforcement agencies and court documents, which are public records.

Bradford

Jerry Atteberry, 29, of Jacksonville, was arrested by Lawtey police on June 27 for possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and driving with a suspended or revoked license.

Skip scanned items at Walmart

Priscilla Bresee

Priscilla Bresee, 31, of Lake Butler, was arrested by Bradford deputies on June 26 for larceny and resisting an officer.

According to an arrest report, a loss prevention associate at Starke’s Walmart told Deputy Paul King that a woman wearing black shorts and a t-shirt with images of cats skipped scanned several items at the store’s self-checkout and fled the scene in a brown Ford Taurus.

The employee said Bresee scanned some of her items and paid $88.17 for the goods.

Deputy Kyle Mozingo saw the defendant’s vehicle at the corner of U.S. 301 and Lafayette Street and conducted a traffic stop.

He wrote in an arrest report that during the traffic stop and while he arrested the defendant, Bresee initially refused his commands for her to exit the vehicle, attempted to re-enter the Taurus, tensed up while he handcuffed her, and resisted him in various ways at the jail.

Mozingo recovered five items in Walmart bags from the defendant’s car, with a value of $36.92 that she did not scan at the self-checkout.

Child pickup goes bad

Landon Cason

Landon Cason, 45, of Starke, was arrested by Bradford deputies on June 24 for battery and kidnapping-false imprisonment.

According to an arrest report, the victim told deputies she went to the defendant’s home to pick up two children. Cason handed over one child but refused to turn over the second.

While the victim was outside Cason’s front door, in the Crosby-Lake-Sampson-Lake area, he grabbed her, pulled her inside the home, and locked the door. The victim added that Cason refused to let her leave for approximately two minutes.

The victim claimed that Cason then forcefully opened the door, striking her.

“(The victim) advised that after (the child) exited the residence, Landon grabbed (the victim) by the arm and pushed her away,” wrote Deputy R. Martin in an arrest report.  “The push caused (the victim) to turn her back to Landon at which point he grabbed her other arm and struck her in the back with an open palm.”

Sharon Fussell, 60, of Booker, was arrested by Bradford deputies on June 23 for an out-of-county warrant.

Jimmy Hankerson, 58, of Starke, was arrested by Bradford deputies on June 21 for DUI.

Damaged victim’s property while she was in jail

Shywon Hawkins

Shywon Hawkins, 26, of Starke, was arrested by Bradford deputies on June 26 for criminal mischief with property damage.

According to an arrest report, the victim told deputies that while she was an inmate at the Bradford County jail, her ex-boyfriend entered her apartment with a key she had earlier given him and “destroyed her belongings.”

“(The victim) stated Shywon gathered most of her clothing and destroyed each individual article,” wrote Deputy Tyler Oliver in the report. “(The victim) advised every piece had been ripped and/or cut up.”

The woman also reported that her driver’s license and a backpack containing her textbooks were missing from her apartment.

Ryan Hewett, 32, of Lawtey, was arrested by Lawtey Police on June 25 for driving with a suspended or revoked license.

Marcus Jackson, 21, of Starke, was arrested by Bradford deputies on June 27 for failure to appear.

Gary Jones, 33, of Starke, was arrested by Bradford deputies on June 24 for sexual assault.

Threw T.V. at victim

Audrena Mallard

Audrena Mallard, 35, of Lake City, was arrested by Bradford deputies on June 26 for aggravated assault and battery.

According to an arrest report, the victim told deputies he and Mallard got into an argument at a residence in the Woodland Acres neighborhood.

The victim added that while he was on the phone with a dispatcher, Mallard threw a television at him, but missed.

The dispute then moved outside the home, where Mallard continued chasing and hitting the victim while he was on the phone with 911.

The victim claimed Mallard was “very intoxicated,” and Deputy Mark Juen wrote in the arrest report that he agreed with that assessment.

Tire flew off boat trailer

Alain Martinez

Alain Martinez, 34, was arrested by Lawtey police on June 26 for hit and run.

According to an arrest report, the owner of a Lawtey auto repair shop told Lawtey police he saw the defendant’s vehicle drive by his place of business hauling a boat on U.S. 301.

The victim added that a tire on the boat trailer flew off the trailer and struck the fence surrounding his business, and damaged several vehicles, causing approximately $5,000 in damage.

“Both he and the suspect vehicle stopped, entered the lot, and observed damage to the fence and two vehicles,” wrote Officer M. Cheramie in the report. “The suspect proceeded to grab his rim and tire and leave the property.”

The business owner said he tried to get Martinez to wait for law enforcement, but the defendant refused and left.

Cheramie contacted dispatch to issue a be-on-the-lookout for the defendant’s vehicle, and a Bradford deputy stopped Martinez near the north end of the Starke bypass.

The defendant told Cheramie that he left the shop after the business owner told him no damage occurred in the mishap and that he could leave the scene.

Litissa Mason, 41, of Starke, was arrested by Bradford deputies on June 22 for driving with a suspended or revoked license.

Neighbor welcomes new resident by stealing her property

Austin Mellville

Austin Mellville, 27, of Starke, was arrested by Bradford deputies on June 26 for a probation violation, larceny, and burglary.

According to an arrest report, the victim told deputies that around 20 items were missing from a Hampton home she was moving into. The missing items included a vacuum cleaner, a fan, cleaning products, mats, a mirror, drinking water, a chair, tools, storage bins, toilet paper, wipes, shampoo, body wash, toothbrushes, and candles.

Neighbors implicated the victim’s next-door neighbor, a man described as “covered in tattoos,” as a likely suspect.

The owner of the neighboring parcel allowed deputies to search his property, and officers found several of the victim’s items in a shed on the lot.

Melville was staying in the shed as a guest but was not present during the investigation.

The shed’s owner told deputies that he was texting the defendant and added that Melville was not coming home. The shed owner informed deputies of the defendant’s workplace in Alachua County.

After deputies discovered Melville had an active warrant for a probation violation, they teletyped the Alachua County Sheriff’s office, and Alachua deputies arrested the defendant at his workplace.

Elmer Mendoza Gutierrez, 20, of Jacksonville, was arrested by Bradford deputies on June 25 for failure to appear.

Linda Rice

Linda Rice, 44, of Starke, was arrested by Bradford deputies on June 24 for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, battery, and disorderly conduct.

According to an arrest report, Rice was involved in a fight in front of a cell phone store at the 301 Plaza on May 8.

Witnesses told deputies that Rice used a wooden pole to strike one or more of the other participants in the fight.

No food in the house, and he wanted something to eat

Jaedin Richardson, 28, of Lake Butler, was arrested by Bradford deputies on June 22 for larceny.

According to an arrest report, a worker at the Brooker Dollar General told deputies a man put an assortment of food items into a plastic bag and left the retailer without paying.

Deputy Kyle Mozingo wrote in the report that store employees identified Richardson as the suspect. Mozingo made contact with the defendant at his home.

“Jaedin stated that he didn’t have any money to pay for the items,” reported the deputy, “and he took them because there was no food in the house, and he wanted something to eat.”

Krystal Salcedo, 25, of Orange Park, was arrested by Bradford deputies on June 21 for DUI.

Paul Smith, 51, of Starke, was arrested by Bradford deputies on June 27 for DUI and driving with a suspended or revoked license.

Richard Soilberry, 39, of Starke, was arrested by Bradford deputies on June 27 for driving with a suspended or revoked license, possession of drug equipment, trafficking in cocaine, resisting an officer, and selling cocaine.

Threw padlock at victim

Alexandra Starling

Alexandra Starling, 33, of Starke, was arrested by Bradford deputies on June 22 for battery.

According to an arrest report, the defendant was staying in a shed behind the victim’s residence, and the pair argued after the victim told Starling that a friend of hers named Tammy was not allowed on the property.

“I spoke with (the victim’s) wife,” wrote Deputy Paul King in the arrest report. (She) advised that she walked outside of the residence when she heard yelling. (The wife) stated she observed the door to the shed, where Alexandra is living in, come open. (The witness) stated that Alexandra then threw a padlock at Jason, hitting him in the chin. (She) stated that Alexandra then left the scene in a black Nissan Rogue with her friend Tammy.”

The victim and two other witnesses gave King the same account of the event.

The property owner was transported to HCA Starke ER for treatment.

King reported that he located Starling, made a traffic stop, and interviewed her about the incident.

“Alexandra stated that Jason walked into the shed where she has been living and started yelling at her,” the deputy wrote in his report.  “Alexandra stated that Jason told her Tammy was not allowed on the property. Alexandra stated that Jason got really close to her, so she pushed him away. Alexandra stated that Jason pushed her back, at which time she walked out of the shed and left with Tammy.”

King added that the 33-year-old denied throwing the padlock at the victim.

Dakota Webb, 27, of Hampton, was arrested by Bradford deputies on June 21 for DUI.

Union

Paul Martin, 46, of Lake Butler, was arrested by Union deputies on June 24 for selling methamphetamine and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription.

Leslie Parrish, 43, of Lake City, was arrested by Union deputies on June 23 for driving with a suspended or revoked license, possession of drug equipment, and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription.

Amber Smith, 38, of Jacksonville, was arrested by Union deputies on June 26 for smuggling contraband into a prison and using a two-way communications device to commit a felony.

Billy Ziesmer, 41, of Lake Butler, was arrested by Union deputies on June 27 for failing to comply with the sexual offender registration law.

Clay

Neighbor wouldn’t leave

Trent Hamilton Etheridge

Trent Etheridge, 48, of Keystone Heights, was arrested by Clay deputies on June 25 for trespassing.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit, the defendant had previously received a trespass warning for the victim’s property in the Immokalee Road area.

“(The victim) advised he was in the front yard of the property working outside,” wrote Deputy Brandon T. Draughton-Miller in the document.  “His next-door neighbor (defendant) walked from his adjoining property and spoke to (the victim).  (The victim) was familiar with the defendant from numerous incidents of him trespassing on the property and causing other issues.”

The officer added that the victim informed Etheridge that he was trespassing and asked him to leave several times.

“After a few minutes, the defendant eventually turned around and left the property,” the deputy wrote, adding that the victim recorded the encounter on his phone.

Tony Ledford, 77, of Keystone Heights, was arrested by Clay deputies on June 26 for threatening a first responder with physical harm.

Sierra Mason, 28, of Keystone Heights, was arrested by Clay deputies on June 20 for failure to appear.

Jackie Thomas, 36, of Keystone Heights, was arrested by Clay deputies on June 21 for driving with a suspended or revoked license.

Lorraine Williams, 31, of Keystone Heights, was arrested by Clay deputies on June 25 for trespassing.
