Last chance to register in Starke’s election

The last chance to register to vote in Starke’s August election for city clerk is Monday, July 21.

Candidates Lisa Heeder and Chrissy Thompson are both seeking the office, which was vacated by the resignation of former Clerk Jimmy Crosby. Heeder works for the city in the clerk’s office. Thompson in a business owner and former commissioner. Both are active members of the community.

Supervisor of Elections Amanda Seyfang is conducting the election, which will take place on Aug. 19 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at city hall. Early voting will take place Monday, Aug. 11, to Friday, Aug. 15, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily in the supervisor of elections office at the courthouse.

Dimple Overstreet will be joining the city commission following the election. District 4 incumbent Commissioner Scott Roberts is retiring from office, and Overstreet was the only candidate to qualify. Commissioner Janice Mortimer was also unchallenged for the District 2 seat.
