Save Our Lakes President Vivian Katz-James informed members of the organization during their July 8 meeting at St. William Catholic Church that she had stepped down from her leadership role.
The longtime lakes advocate introduced the 2026 officers, with Scott Slater becoming the organization’s new President, Chandler Rocher as Vice President, and Diane Bennett as Secretary. Katz-James will remain on the board and serve as treasurer.
Later in the meeting, Slater addressed the concerning issue of declining water levels in Lake Brooklyn. He stated that the lake has receded by approximately three feet, primarily due to an ongoing lack of rainfall and increased water consumption by residents for activities such as lawn irrigation.
Slater emphasized the urgent need for the community to adopt more sustainable water usage practices to preserve this vital natural resource and ensure the lake’s health for future generations.
He urged residents to be mindful of their consumption and highlighted the significant impact of individual efforts on the overall well-being of Lake Brooklyn. He continued by proposing the idea of using reclaimed water for future water use.
