Union County youth get wins at AAU track and field event

A pair of Union County youth made quite the showing at the July 8-12 AAU National Club Track and Field Championship as Dae Mabrey and Zoey Marshall both earned wins.

Mabrey, competing as a member of East Butler Athletics, won the 9-year-old girls shot put at the Jacksonville event with a distance of 22 feet, 1.75 inches. That put her in first place by 5.75 inches.

She also competed in the turbo javelin, placing fourth with a distance of 42-11.

Marshall, competing as a member of Supreme Performance Athletics, won the 12-year-old girls 400m by crossing the finish line in 57.85 seconds, with the runner-up finishing at 58.38. Marshall also competed in the 800m, running a 17th-place time of 2:34.96.

The Supreme Performance Athletics 12-year-old 4x400m relay team, which Marshall was a part of, placed third with a time of 4:18.32.

Mabrey and Marshall both entered the event off wins in the shot put and 400m, respectively, at AAU regional qualifiers.

The AAU National Club Championship also included performances by two other members of East Butler Athletics. Melinda Mabrey was 31st in the 15-16-year-old girls shot put with a distance of 25-5.5, while Braylen Tyson was 50th in the 15-16 boys long jump with a distance of 17-0.5.
