A St. Johns River Water Management District official told the organization’s governing board that Lake Brooklyn lost another 4.8 inches in water level during July.

The decrease marks the eighth consecutive month the lake has lost water.

The lake level in November was 112.1 feet. In July, the level had dropped to 107.7 feet. However, the lake remains above its long-term average.

Tim Miller, the district’s bureau chief of Water Resource Information, told the district’s governing board during his August hydrological report that rainfall varied widely throughout the district in July.

“Central counties, including Marion and Volusia, and portions of Brevard and Indian River counties to the south, recorded the highest amounts, with some localized areas receiving over 11 inches,” he said. “In contrast, northern counties and coastal areas received less. Four counties were more than an inch below their monthly averages, including Baker, Nassau, Duval, and Clay counties.”
