The summer was anything but boring at the Bradford County Public Library, thanks to the hard work of Melanie Jackson and Tanya Mitchell. The duo planned a variety of summer events ranging from animals to zombies and everything in between.

Jackson said some of her personal favorite activities were animal tales, the Dadician Magic Show, and the petting zoo, but her absolute favorite thing about the summer program was the participation in the reading. There were 58 reading logs turned in and children won prizes based on how many logs they turned in.

There were two grand prize winners who received a family fun pack to the Gainesville Funworks Skate Station, and another 14  kids won tickets to the Florida Twin Movie Theatre. Alex Bell was the only Sunshine State Reader this summer.

Jackson thanked Justin Sparks from the theater, Gainesville Funworks and her faithful volunteers for all their contributions to the success of the summer programs. Jackson said high school graduates Presley Acree, Noah Thompson and Aurora Marable donated their time this summer to help with all the programs.

There were many other businesses and volunteers who helped make the library a community center full of summer fun. DLP Bank, Stake Fire Rescue and Funtastic Fire Brigade closed out the summer by providing snacks, water and bubbles at the end of summer bash event on July 31.

Jackson encouraged everyone to continue to follow the library’s calendar of events and said the next highlight will be the mega pet adoption event on Aug. 23 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

The end of summer was a big bash at the library on July 31! The Starke Fire Department provided the splash, Funtastic Fire Brigade brought the bubbles, DLP cooked up the food, and the library staff created an epic backyard party to celebrate a summer full of adventure.
Zamira and Antonella enjoyed some down time and snacks at the library’s end of summer bash on July 31.
Chris Page and Kimberly Howard from DLP Bank were on hand to provide grilled hotdogs and chips to all the families who came by to celebrate at the library’s end of summer bash.
Mom Jasmine and daughter Janai caught some end of summer magic, as bubbles filled the air from the Funtastic Fire Brigade Truck at the library on Thursday.
Natalie and Chloe were feeling summer vibes at the library’s end of summer bash on July 31. Like many kids, they ran through the water to cool off, grabbed a snack, then crashed on their beach towels.
