A 42-year-old Interlachen man was sentenced to two years with the Florida Department of Corrections after pleading to using a fraudulent driver’s license to obtain a loan for a Ford F-150.

Jerome Douglas Chavers Jr. pleaded to scheming to defraud to obtain property. The State dropped additional charges of grand theft auto, making a false statement to obtain a loan, and possession of a forged driver’s license as part of a plea agreement.

According to a complaint, on October 25, 2024, a Community First Credit Union employee told Bradford detectives that the defendant had used a fraudulent license to obtain a $59,958.19 loan for the 2022 pickup from Murray Ford.

“(The employee) stated that Jerome fraudulently used the wrong name, date of birth, and social security number to obtain the loan under false pretenses,” a detective wrote in the complaint.

The investigator noted in the complaint that Chavers used similar methods to fraudulently obtain a camper loan in St. Johns County.
