BHS boys defeat UCHS in golf, Tigers’ Seay is top girl

Bradford and Union County high schools played each other in golf at the Starke Golf and Country Club on Aug. 19, with the Tornadoes topping the Tigers on the boys side and the Tigers’ Katelyn Seay earning medalist honors for the girls.

The Bradford boys team had a score of 169 to Union’s 235. The Tornadoes’ Avery Burgin and Steven Carter tied for medalist honors. Each had one birdie and made par on four holes for a final score of 41.

Bradford took the third-fifth individual slots as well, with Tucker Griffis placing third with a score of 42, followed by Charlie Zink at 45 and Patrick Pendarvis at 47. Griffis and Pendarvis each made par on three holes, while Zink had a birdie and made par on two holes.

The rest of the field belonged to Union golfers, who were led by Gavin Kuhn’s sixth-place score of 54. He had a birdie and made par on one hole.

Ayden Tomlinson, who made par on one hole, and Brysen Tomlinson finished with scores of 57 and 60, respectively, while Emery Muse and Fenix Norman shot 64 and 75, respectively.

The girls match involved a total of six players, with Bradford not fielding a full girls team. Union’s Seay led the field with a 65, while the Tigers’ Kerissa Seay was second at 68.

Bradford’s Sarah Rantz and Alexis Fuhrman were third and fourth, respectively, with scores of 69 and 71.

The Tigers’ Sierra Bell and Sophia Elixson each shot a fifth-place score of 80.

Bradford hosts a boys match against Lafayette on Thursday, Aug. 21, at 4 p.m. and a girls match against Keystone Heights on Tuesday, Aug. 26, at 4 p.m.

Union’s girls golfers play against Trenton on Monday, Aug. 25, at Lake City’s Quail Heights Country Club at 4 p.m. Both boys and girls golfers then play Chiefland on Tuesday, Aug. 26, at the Country Club at Lake City at 4 p.m.
