UCHS volleyball team falls to Branford again

Union County lost its second match to Branford in less than a week, with the latest a 3-0 (25-14, 25-22, 25-16) sweep on Sept. 22 in Branford.

Stats were unavailable by deadline.

The Tigers (12-6), who’ve now dropped three in a row, hosted Branford on Sept. 16, losing 3-1 (25-17, 25-23, 23-25, 25-19). Jailyn Simmons had 12 kills, while Indi Knox and Mallory Waugh each had 10. Simmons added eight digs and four blocks, while Waugh and Knox had 12 and nine digs, respectively. Waugh also had eight assists and two blocks.

Abby Williams led the team in assists with 27 and service aces with three. She also had eight digs, while Bayley Staier had nine digs.

Morgan Smith recorded eight kills and two blocks, while Lydia Waugh had three blocks.

On Sept. 18, Union lost 3-1 (27-29, 25-22, 25-18, 25-20) to host Lafayette. Stats were unavailable by deadline.

Union hosts Suwannee on Tuesday, Sept. 23, at 6:30 p.m., following a junior varsity match at 5:30 p.m. The Tigers also play home matches at 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. against Keystone Heights on Thursday, Sept. 25, Newberry on Monday, Sept. 29 and Bell on Tuesday, Sept. 30.

A previous post had the results of the Tigers’ performance in the Sept. 12-13 Wawa Jacksonville Juniors Volleyball Association River City High School Classic, but only contained stats from Union’s first match in the tournament, a 2-0 win over Vanguard. The stats from the other matches were as follows:

—2-0 win over St. Augustine — Simmons seven kills, three aces two blocks; Williams six assists; Mallory Waugh five digs, five assists.

—2-0 win over Clay — Knox nine digs; Simmons eight kills; Williams eight assists; Bella Johns seven digs; Mallory Waugh five kills, five assists.

—2-0 loss to East River — Knox four digs; Simmons seven kills, three aces; Staier four digs; Williams eight assists; Mallory Waugh six assists, four digs.

—2-1 win over The Master’s Academy — Johns 13 digs, three aces; Simmons 11 kills, three blocks; Williams 10 assists; Shaley Maloney three blocks; Mallory Waugh 14 digs, 10 assists.
