Tigers defeat Indians 3-1 in volleyball

Union County High School’s volleyball team snapped a four-match losing streak with its 3-1 (23-25, 25-11, 25-18, 25-23) win over visiting Keystone Heights on Sept. 25.

Stats for Union weren’t available by deadline, but Keystone got 18 kills, 10 digs and two blocks from Mia Rivera, 15 digs, seven kills and seven service aces from Kadence Massey and two blocks from Mackenzie Castevecchi. Kaleigh Marquart had 32 assists.

The Tigers added a second straight win when they defeated visiting Newberry 3-1 (18-25, 25-12, 25-18, 25-19) on Sept. 29.

Union scored the final six points of the fourth set, with a Bella Johns ace being the match-winning point.

Stats were unavailable by deadline.

Keystone entered the Union match off a 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-18) win over visiting Orange Park on Sept. 23, getting 14 kills, six digs and two blocks from Rivera and nine digs and six aces from Massey.

Marquart recorded 22 assists.

Union (13-7) hosts Bell on Tuesday, Sept. 30, at 6:30 p.m., following a junior varsity match at 5:30 p.m. and will then host Dixie County on Monday, Oct. 6, with matches scheduled for 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

On Tuesday, Oct. 7, the Tigers host Baker County, with matches scheduled for 6 p.m. and 7 p.m.

The Indians (13-7) host Newberry on Tuesday, Sept. 30, at 7 p.m., following a junior varsity match at 6 p.m. and will travel to play Palatka on Thursday, Oct. 2, with matches at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m..

Keystone hosts Hawthorne on Monday, Oct. 6, and Interlachen on Tuesday, Oct. 7, with matches scheduled for 6 p.m. and 7 p.m.
