BHS volleyball team defeats Baldwin for 7th straight win

Bradford High School’s volleyball team won its seventh match in a row, defeating host Baldwin 3-2 (22-25, 25-22, 25-27, 25-16, 15-11) on Oct. 2.

The Tornadoes (11-4) got 15 kills from Ar’Nayshia Griffin, while Tatum Burkhalter and Autumn DeKorver each had eight. Wynter Barrington added six kills.

Kingslee Phillips and Shelby Cole recorded 23 and 12 assists, respectively, with Phillips also leading the team in service aces with five.

Burkhalter and Maduo Wei led the team in digs with 21 and 20, respectively. Phillips and DeKorver had 17 and 16 digs, respectively, while Lakelyn Sheppard had 10. Cole added eight digs.

Ky’lee Johnson had four blocks, while Barrington, Griffin and Leila Roberts each had two.

The win over Baldwin was Bradford’s fourth match of the week.

On Sept. 29, the Tornadoes defeated host Baker County 3-1 (25-23, 25-23, 16-25, 27-25), getting 17 kills and five blocks from Griffin.

DeKorver and Burkhalter had 15 and 14 kills, respectively, with DeKorver adding 14 digs and three blocks and Burkhalter adding 31 digs.

Sheppard and Wei had 15 and 13 digs, respectively, while Phillips had nine. Cole and Johnson each had eight digs.

Phillips led the team in assists with 25, while Cole added 22.

Barrington and Johnson had five and three blocks, respectively.

Weid led the team in aces with four. Cole added three.

The Tornadoes defeated host Palatka 3-1 (25-13, 25-22, 13-25, 25-16) on Sept. 30.

Griffin led the team in kills with eight, while Burkhalter, DeKorver and Roberts each had eight.

Burkhalter recorded 14 digs, followed by Wei with 10, Cole, Johnson and Sheppard with nine each and DeKorver with seven.

Barrington and Griffin each had two blocks, while Cole led the team with 13 assists. Phillips added 11 assists.

On Oct. 1, Bradford defeated visiting Hilliard 3-0 (25-11, 25-9, 25-13).

DeKorver led the team in kills with nine, while Burkhalter, Johnson and Roberts each had five.

Cole and Phillips each had a team-high nine digs, with Phillips also recording 17 assists.

Weigh and Burkhalter had eight and seven digs, respectively, while Sheppard had five.

Barrington, DeKorver, Griffin, Johnson and Roberts had two blocks each, while Burkhalter and Johnson each had three aces.

Bradford concluded the regular season with an Oct. 6 match at Fort white. Results weren’t known as of this posting.

The Tornadoes will next compete in the District 4-3A tournament. Seedings and matchups will be announced later.
