BHS, UCHS boys golfers compete in District 3-1A tournament

Bradford and Union County high schools competed in the District 3-1A boys golf tournament on Oct. 28 in Lake City, with the Tornadoes getting 15th-place finishes from Avery Burgin and Tucker Griffis.

The Tornadoes placed fifth out of nine in the team standings with an 18-hole score of 338. That left Bradford trailing Tallahassee Maclay, which won with a score of 301, Lafayette and Florida High, which both had scores of 318, and Aucilla Christian, which had a score of 333.

Burgin and Griffis were part of a four-way tie, with each finishing with a score of 82. Burgin had a birdie and made par on eight holes, while Griffis had a birdie and made par on seven holes.

Steven Carter and Charlie Zink each shot an 87 for Bradford, which made them part of a three-way tie for 24th in the 48-individual field. Carter made par on six holes, while Zink made par on eighth.

Bradford’s Patrick Pendarvis made par on five holes, finishing with a 30th-place score of 91.

Union, which didn’t have a full team, was led by Ayden Tomlinson, who had two birdies and made par on one hole in finishing in a three-way tie for 35th with a score of 97.

The Tigers’ Emery Muse and Brysen Tomlinson each shot a 118.

Florida High’s Hunter Glantz won the individual district championship with a score of 71 (even par), while Maclay’s Brody Mitchell was the runner-up with a score of 73.
