BHS girls to play top seed in Region 1-3A playoffs

The Bradford High School girls basketball team is a district champion, but the Tornadoes will have to travel for a first-round regional game.

Bradford (16-9) earned the eighth and final seed in Region 1-3A and will have to play another district champion in top seed Bolles (22-4) on Friday, Feb. 13, at 7 p.m. in Jacksonville. If the Tornadoes win, they’ll travel to play fourth seed Freeport (17-9) or fifth seed Jacksonville Andrew Jackson (16-11) in a semifinal game on Friday, Feb. 20 at 7 p.m.

Region 1 also consists of second seed Newberry (19-4) hosting seventh seed Episcopal (18-8) and third seed South Walton (18-6) hosting Florida High (17-10).

Seedings were determined by the final Florida High School Athletic Association/MaxPreps power rankings.

Bradford is in the playoffs for the fourth straight year and is making its 22nd appearance overall. The Tornadoes have a postseason record of 11-21 and are seeking their first regional win since 2016.

The Tornadoes’ best postseason occurred in 1995 when they went 5-0 in winning the Class 4A state championship.

Bolles, which was last season’s state runner-up, won the District 4 championship by defeating Jackson 59-25. The Bulldogs reached the title game by beating Wolfson 95-25.

This is the Bulldogs’ 12th straight year in the regional playoffs and 22nd year overall. Bolles has a postseason record of 14-21.

Bradford and Bolles have met twice in the regional playoffs. The Bulldogs defeated the Tornadoes 33-30 in the second round in 2016 and then beat Bradford in the first round the following year by a 64-41 score.
