Tornadoes drop 1-run game to Branford Bucs

Bradford High School’s baseball team got 13 strikeouts from pitcher Cannon Sapp, but fell 2-1 to host Branford on Feb. 13.

The Tornadoes (0-2) scored first in the top of the third. Lucas White drew a one-out walk. With two outs, Jaxson Carter hit a 1-1 pitch for a double into right field, scoring White from first.

Two singles and an error allowed Branford to tie the score in the fourth.

The Buccaneers (1-1) scored the winning run in the sixth. Two batters were hit by pitches, with one scoring on a sacrifice fly.

Sapp pitched a complete game, allowing four hits and one earned run.

Bradford got just three hits off pitchers Jackson Skinner and Kyler Williamson, who combined to record nine strikeouts.

The Tornadoes opened the season with an 8-3 loss to visiting Hilliard on Feb. 10.

Hilliard scored five runs in the first on two singles, three walks and an error.

Bradford got a two-run double from Carter, scoring Sapp and Ryder Thompson as part of a three-run first, but the Tornadoes would get only one more hit the rest of the way.

Pitcher Kaedan Parks had a solid effort in the final three innings, giving up one run and one hit, while striking out seven.

The Tornadoes travel to play at Williston on Wednesday, Feb. 18, at 7 p.m. and then travel to play Keystone Heights on Friday, Feb. 20, at 7 p.m.

On Tuesday, Feb. 24, Bradford travels to play Duval Charter at 6:30 p.m.
