The city of Starke mourned the sudden loss of one of its employees this past week.

City Manager Drew Mullins said Cory Adams — a meter reader — died right after work March 11. The death was not related to his job, and as he was only 23 years old, came as quite a shock.

Mullins said staff took it hard when he told them the sad news the following day.

The city memorialized him online, posting, “On Wednesday evening, March 11, 2025, we tragically lost one of our own. Cory Adams was a vibrant, kind, thoughtful, caring person. You probably saw him at least once a month at your house or business as he was in our meter department. We are grateful for the time we had with Cory and he will be sorely missed.”

Responses confirmed Adams’ kindness, with many prayers for his family.

A service was held at Victory Chapel on March 15.
