It took just a 1.07-pound bass to claim the $1,000 top prize at the Tommy Spires Annual Bass Fishing Tournament on Saturday, July 4, where engaged couple Blake Harrell and Zoie Whitlock of Lake Butler outfished a field of 35 anglers on 18 boats.
The tournament, presented by the Lake Butler Rotary Club at Lakeside Park as part of the community’s celebration of America’s 250th birthday, sent boats onto Butler Lake at daybreak with a 10 a.m. weigh-in deadline.
Cole Kite and Kenneth Owen took second place and $500 with a 1.01-pound bass. The boats of Dallen Cox and Mac Douglas and of Stephen and Bubba Waldron tied for third at 0.62 pounds. Keran Barton and Kameron Weeks landed the $100 Trash Fish Award with a 2-pound entry. Click here for the full story.
