Consultants from Leathers & Associates, the firm that led the community build of the Geneva Jungle playground in 1997, presented an assessment to Keystone Heights council members, offering three options: a minor renovation at roughly $66,000 that would extend the playground’s life about seven years; a major renovation at about $193,000 good for 10 or more years; or full replacement with a modern, wood-look plastic-lumber structure at about $365,000, expected to last 30 years. The May inspection found rot at the tops of main support posts and in some supporting beams, though the main structure remains in fair condition — the playground has already outlasted its projected life by four years, the report said.
