Among tonight’s headline items at the Union County School Board meeting was approval of a Personalized Education Program (PEP) Enrollment and Standard Procedure Guide for Families, a document intended to spell out how state scholarship recipients can take courses through the district.
The guide lays out the options open to PEP families, including part-time virtual courses through MDVS, part-time brick-and-mortar classes, therapeutic services for students with disabilities, and, where permitted, participation in interscholastic sports and school clubs. Students can also use the district to sit for industry certification tests and standardized state assessments.
The accompanying fee schedule sets district virtual courses at $400 per course per semester and brick-and-mortar courses at $800, with additional fees of $50 to $150 for some career and technical education classes. Families are billed through the Education Marketplace (EMA) platform. The guide also details device access, campus parking, vaccination requirements and behavior expectations for scholarship students taking part in district programs.
