Centoya Monique Chandler, 41, of Starke, was arrested by Bradford deputies on July 6 for hit and run.
According to an arrest report, a deputy was driving south on U.S. 301 near Deerfoot Village around 3:09 p.m. when a tow truck driver pulled alongside the patrol car and said a vehicle he was trying to repossess had crashed into his truck as the driver tried to avoid the repo.
The tow truck driver pointed out a white SUV he said had hit him.
Deputies conducted a traffic stop and identified the driver as Chandler. After being read her rights, Chandler told the deputy she had been inside working when she saw the tow truck in the parking lot hooked to her car, the report states.
She said she ran out and jumped into the SUV and, while its rear was lifted off the ground, reversed hard enough to disconnect it from the truck. When the tow truck driver tried to block her, she said, she drove around him and struck the rear of the tow truck with her front bumper before fleeing down Container Road. She later returned to Deerfoot Village, where she was stopped.
The tow truck driver told deputies he had received the repossession order that day, located the SUV, confirmed its VIN and lifted it before Chandler drove it off his ramps. The exact cost of the damage was unknown because of possible harm to the truck’s hydraulic system, the report notes.
