Brooks places 3rd for KHHS girls in loss to Middleburg

Aubrey Brooks had a third-place finish, but the Keystone Heights High School girls golf team lost to host Middleburg in an Aug. 31 match at Orange Park’s Eagle Landing Golf Club.

The Indians had a team score of 260, finishing 51 strokes behind the Broncos.

Brooks made par on one hole and finished with a score of 51. Teammates Zoey Gill, Evelyn Bardier and Jasmine Walls placed sixth through eighth with scores of 67, 70 and 72.

Keystone’s Bryley Lee and Ila Miller each shot a 76 to finish tied for ninth.

On Aug. 19, Brooks was the runner-up in a loss to Fleming Island at The Golf Club at Fleming Island.

The Indians had a team score of 224 to the Eagles’ 166.

Brooks made par on six holes and tied for second with Fleming’s Shayla Abbas with a score of 39. That left her trailing medalist Sophia Moody of Fleming by nine strokes.

Keystone’s Rebecca Binet, who had a birdie, shot a 51 to tie for fifth, while Walls had a 10th-place score of 65.

Lee and teammate Jillian Huntley each shot a 69, while Gill had a score of 72.
