When I picked up the new Telegraph a few weeks ago, two things stuck out at me immediately. The Rawson guy says he is only supporting legislation that “glorifies God” and the story about Clay County success regarding school grading.
I don’t want politicians proselytizing to me or preachers telling me who to vote for. Is he glorifying just the God he hears about in his church or the God in the other three dozen churches in Bradford County. If he was the same with the same message, there would not be so many churches.
Clay County is learning about the state and its school grading system like I learned almost 30 years ago. Move the bar often and higher. We have to prove the schools are failing so we can have that wonderful thing called choice, where the state gives millions of public money to private and church schools with much less oversight they give to public schools. Now if you homeschool you get about 9k a year.
Read the State Constitution on public schools. There is no mention of spending this money on private enterprise. It specifically says to support the public schools. But hey, it’s Florida the last 25 years. The rules are different here. The fewer funds for poorer counties is devastating. Just ask our superintendent or better yet the Union County superintendent how lack of funds is impacting our kids and community.
By the way, Clay County does well because they have a better tax base and I have observed them pick off good teachers from Bradford for years now because they can pay more.
