Pumpkins, cow patties and a witches’ ride fill October calendar

Bradford County residents have no shortage of fall fun on the calendar this month, with a farmers market festival, a long-running charity festival, a costumed fundraising ride and a downtown Halloween celebration all planned before the month is out.

The season kicks off Saturday, Oct. 10, with the Bradford County Farmers Market & Fall Festival, set for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. (Due to weather, the festival will take place Saturday, Oct. 17.) The event will be held under the cattle barn at the Bradford Fairgrounds. Pumpkins from Triple C Produce will be available, along with a free fall photo booth. Vendors will offer baked goods, fresh produce, handmade crafts, jewelry, candles and soaps, cotton candy and popcorn, fresh eggs, and canned goods and jellies.

One week later, The Arc of Bradford County hosts its 22nd annual Fall Festival on Saturday, Oct. 17, beginning at 10 a.m. at 10501 Hampton Ave. in Hampton, the former Hampton Elementary School. Admission is free. The family-friendly event benefits individuals with intellectual and developmental differences.

The festival’s headline attraction is Cow Patty Bingo, which carries a $1,000 grand prize. Tickets are $50 each and can be purchased online. The day will also include concessions, pumpkin carving, a vendor market, raffles and giveaways, and the Arc’s thrift store will be open. Full details are available at thearcbradford.org/fallfestival.

The Arc will also benefit from the Witches Ride on Friday, Oct. 30, starting at 6 p.m. at Downtown Grill. Participants are invited to ride with witches around town by bicycle, golf cart, side-by-side or truck, and organizers encourage everyone to dress up their rides. Adults can enjoy a wine tasting with snacks. Participation is a $25 donation.

The month wraps up Saturday, Oct. 31, with Pumpkin Escape in downtown Starke from 5 to 8 p.m. The free event features a cake walk, a DJ and music, games and plenty of free candy. Children are encouraged to wear their costumes and bring candy bags.
