The Keystone Heights High School boys golf team placed eighth at the Oct. 31 Region 1-1A finals, with Alex Addington finishing in a tie for 18th.
Addington had two birdies and made par on nine holes in shooting an 18-hole score of 80 at the event, which was held at Marsh Landing Country Club in Jacksonville. He improved upon his score from last season’s region finals by one stroke.
The Indians’ Connor Guy, who had a birdie and made par on nine holes, tied for 29th with a score of 85, while Nic Binet and Shepherd Rozier tied for 39th and 45th, respectively, with scores of 90 and 93. Binet made par on seven holes and improved upon last season’s score by 12 strokes, while Rozier made par on four in improving his score from last year by 21 strokes.
Ty Mitzel, who made par on seven holes, tied for 50th with a score of 96.
Keystone finished with a team score of 348, which left the Indians trailing Episcopal (298), Bolles (304), Florida High (308), Pensacola Catholic (318), Maclay (325), Walton (337) and Providence (347).
The top three teams and the top three individuals not on those teams automatically qualified for the state finals, which will be held Friday, Nov. 11, at Mission Inn and Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills. An additional four teams and four individuals not on those teams will receive at-large bids, which will be announced at a later date.
Addington had the seventh-best score among individuals not on the top three teams.
Episcopal’s Henry Robards shot a 70 to win the individual championship. Bolles’ Andrew Morgan and Maclay’s Lee Poppell each shot a 71 to tie for second.
