The excitement of the holiday season leaped from the pages of the books and into the parking lot at the Bradford County Public Library’s third annual Winter Christmas Carnival. The free event entertained almost 500 residents on Thursday evening, showering families with “snow,” games, prizes, train rides and Santa!
Director Kimberly Crawford praised the efforts of her team who worked diligently to set up the event and worked to partner with more than 20 local businesses to make the night memorable. Businesses either donated money, gift card prizes, or sent team members to host game booths. Members of Altrusa of Starke also volunteered, providing and grilling the hotdogs. Crawford also wanted to recognize the help from some special “elves” from VOLT, Voice of Library Teens. The group members set up interactive games for children in attendance.
This event has already made some of the four legged members of the community have a merrier Christmas, with three successful pet adoptions. The library has been partnering with the Sheriff’s Office and Animal Control to have available pets at events. The adoption fees are waived for anyone adopting at a library event.
Each year the Winter Christmas Carnival gets bigger and is quickly becoming a local staple of the holiday season. The Bradford County Library is not just a place to learn but to share in community and as Crawford stated, “The library is community.”Friends Ashley, Erika and Georgia, took advantage of the comfortable temperatures and strolled to the carnival with their young crew in tow!Like many others, the Alvers family enjoyed an evening train ride together at the winter carnival.Bradford County Library Director Kimberly Crawford thanked Santa for a fantastic evening at the Winter Christmas Carnival.Kiwanis Members John Reagan, Patricia Evans and Major George Konkel served up grilled hotdogs for the library’s holiday event.Winston and Annalyse took a snowball’s chance and tossed to win a prize at the Forestry Department’s booth.Young Hayden took a shot at winning when he visited a booth set up by two Volt Volunteers.Smiles and fun were decking the parking lot of the library.
