Area football teams still in top 3 in RPI rankings

The Florida High School Athletic Association released its newest football RPI rankings on Oct. 27, with Bradford, Keystone Heights and Union County all ranked third in their respective regions.

When the regular season concludes, the FHSAA will make a final RPI calculation, which consists of an equation that includes teams’ winning percentages, their opponents’ winning percentages and the winning percentages of their opponents’ opponents. The top six in each region will advance to the regional playoffs.

Union, which is 8-0, has fluctuated between first and third in Region 3 in Class 1A. The Tigers are currently third with an RPI of 0.636, which puts them behind Chiefland (8-0, 0.670) and Hilliard (8-0, 0.660).

The remainder of the top six in Region 3-1A consists of Lafayette (6-2, 0.580), Fort White (4-3, 0.507) and Trenton (3-4, 0.505).

Bradford has been ranked as high as second in previous rankings for Region 4 in Class 1A. The Tornadoes, who are 4-4, are currently third with an RPI of 0.552. They’re behind Hawthorne (7-0, 0.670) and Pahokee (6-1, 0.592).

Newberry (5-3, 0.531) is fourth behind Bradford, followed by Wildwood (3-4, 0.497) and Fort Meade (4-4, 0.470).

Keystone, which is 8-0, was ranked second in Region 2 in Class 4A, but is now third with an RPI of 0.667. Cocoa (6-1, 0.765) and The Villages (8-0, 0.689) occupy the first and second spots.

The rest of the top six in Region 2-4A consists of Hernando (4-3, 0.554), South Sumter (5-3, 0.522) and Umatilla (4-4, 0.478).
