After a hot afternoon “on the farm,” what could be better with some popsicle refreshments with your friends? These students from the Concerned Citizens Summer Day Camp were keeping cool with their favorite crew.

A long line of eager library goers meandered through the bookshelves from the back door to the front entrance at the latest summer program: Petting Zoo and Pony Rides.

The event is always eagerly anticipated by inquisitive children and parents alike. This event, along with all the other activities the library plans for the summer, helps fill the long summer days with meaningful learning opportunities and enriches imaginations as children read.

This year, the library used a fenced area behind the building for the petting zoo. The space offered some shade and created a “backyard barnyard” feel for young explorers. Library staffers Melanie  Jackson and Tonya Mitchell were just two of the many devoted team members who were on hand to help children have quality time inside the petting zoo and to get their chance at a pony ride.

The petting zoo animals were provided by The Barnyard Bunch and the pony rides by MNM’s  Ponies. Stop by the library for the calendar of events. There are more exciting activities planned for July including crafting, sticker swaps, and an end of summer bash on the 31st.

Say “cheese” — goat cheese that is! Goats were a main attraction in the petting zoo at the library. Many children brushed, petted and even chased a few around the pen.
Mckenna, like many children, came with her family to have some new experiences at the library. Riding the ponies was a highlight for most of those in attendance.
Makalyan loved petting the soft bunny rabbits, just some of the small creatures along for the latest adventure at the library’s petting zoo, part of the summer program.
Friendly chickens and ducks were on hand to give children a taste of life on the farm at the Bradford County library’s petting zoo last Thursday afternoon.
Aashna, president of Voice of the Library Teens program, was on the job providing fresh lemonade to children and parents enjoying the warm afternoon at the library.
Student volunteers Ava from Santa Fe College and Cana from Bradford High offered cold popsicles for refreshment to all who visited the library’s backyard barnyard.
Concerned Citizens of Bradford County’s summer day campers were just some of the hundreds who came out to enjoy pony rides, a petting zoo, and popsicles at the library’s most recent summer program.
The Bradford County Library’s summer program provides interactive experiences for children. Instead of just imagining life on a farm while reading books like “Charlotte’s Web,” little ones can literally chase their dreams around the petting zoo.
