Bradford deputies arrested a 39-year-old Sanderson man for enticing a 10-year-old boy to fight and then taking a swing at the child’s grandmother.

Leroy Jay Combs was arrested for trespassing and simple assault, resulting from a confrontation in the area of Northwest 22nd Ave., between Lawtey and Highland.

According to an arrest report, the 10-year-old’s grandmother told deputies that the defendant’s son and her grandson had been arguing over a girl, and Combs followed the 10-year-old from the street into her driveway.

“(The grandmother) said that she told Jay that he was childish (and) that an adult should not get involved and threaten anyone,” wrote Deputy Paul Moody Jr. in an arrest report.  “(The grandmother) said she told Jay to leave her property because he had walked from the street and was now in her driveway.  (She) said Jay began yelling and swung his hand up at her, missing and not making contact.”

The victim added that Combs then threatened her daughter-in-law before leaving.

The daughter-in-law said Combs wanted more family members involved in the dispute.

She repeated the defendant’s threat.

“I’m going to have my daughter stomp on you and rearrange (your) face,” the woman told a deputy, repeating the man’s threat. “Have your husband meet me, and I’ll take care of him.”
