Union County High School’s track and field teams established numerous personal records and season-best performances, including Amia Bethea breaking her own school record at an April 18 meet hosted by Santa Fe.
Bethea won the girls 100m with a time of 12.32, which bettered the school record she set earlier this season. She also ran a personal-record time of 25.55 to take second in the 200m.
Holly Halfacre placed third in the triple jump with a personal-record 31-7.25.
Two boys relay teams earned third-place finishes with season-best times. The 4x400m team of Blake McCoy, Brycen Boney, Bo Thomas and Deonte Jones had a time of 3:38, while the 4x800m team of McCoy, Thomas, Michael Hill and Gavin Smith had a time of 9:21.
The boys 4x100m relay team of McCoy, Dayquan Diston, Bobo Woodall and Thomas ran a seventh-place time of 47.79, which was also its best of the season.
Diston earned a ninth-place finish in the 200m with a time of 23.1.
Union had two 10th-place finishes in the boys events. Boney ran a PR of 54.41 in the 400m, while McCoy had a PR of 19-7.5 in the long jump.
Other boys results were: 100m — Jones 11.46 (PR), Woodall 11.58 (PR); 200m — Jones 23.46 (PR); 800m — Smith 2:24, Dane Johnson 2:30; 1600m — Smith 5:15 (PR); discus — C.J. Ivey 96-11.75 (PR), Matthew Rogers 89-9.5, Dillon Lane 77-6.25; and shot put — Jacob Jenkins 31-7.5, Lane 30-10.75 and Ivey 30-1.5.
The girls team also had the following results: 100m — Faith Sirmones 14.09 (PR), Halfacre 14.17 (PR); 200m — Sirmones 29.79 (PR), Daina Smith 34.53 (PR); 800m — Rachel Harris (of Lake Butler Middle School) 3:02; 1600m — Harris 6:39 (PR); long jump — Halfacre 13-11.25 (PR), Sirmones 11-11.25 (PR); discus — Briena Haight 57-9 (PR), Ja’Kari Hill 48-6 (PR); and shot put — Haight 24-10, Mari Williams 22-3 (PR).
