Union County High School’s track and field teams competed in the Santa Fe Raiders Open Classic on Feb. 22, with girls team member Amia Bethea sprinting to two victories and Deonte Jones earning a fifth-place finish for the boys team.
Bethea broke the school record in the 100m, winning the race with a time of 12.34 seconds. She also set a personal record in winning the 200m with a time of 26.49.
The girls team also got a seventh-place finish from Taleyah Smith, who had a distance of 26-0.75 in the shot put.
Union also had the following girls results: 100m — Tierra Williams 14.26, Faith Sirmones 14.70, Daina Smith 16.35; 200m — Williams 30.84, Sirmones 31.00; long jump — Holly Halfacre 11-5.75; and shot put — Alexia Cyr 19-11, Briena Haight 19-11.
Jones earned his fifth-place finish with a time of 53.51 in the 400m. Teammate Bo Thomas placed eighth in the race at 54.29.
The boys team also had the following performances: 100m — Daquan Diston 11.65, Davien Pressley 12.24, Michael Hill 13.08, Matthew Rogers 13.73; 200m — Thomas 24.59, Ibn Williams 25.58; 400m — Brycen Boney 55.64, Blake McCoy 56.67, Hill 1:04; 800m — Gavin Smith 2:18, Ashton Bunkley 2:35; 1600m — Smith 5:51, Bunkley 6:14; long jump — McCoy 18-3; and shot put — Edward Durant 34-4, Anthony Holmes 30-4.25, Phoenix Bryant 27-8.75.
