BHS’ Banda, White have 5 wins each at Fernandina wrestling event

Bradford High School went 2-4 as a team, with Daniel Banda and Tremeze White each earning five wins at the Jan. 11 Dual at the Dunes at Fernandina Beach High School.

The Tornadoes lost their first three matches by scores of 59-24 to Fernandina, 51-30 to Interlachen and 77-0 to Clay. They then defeated Ed White 36-30 before losing 42-24 to Gainesville.

Bradford’s last match was a 35-30 win over West Nassau.

Banda, who wrestled in the 157-pound class, won by forfeit in the team’s loss to Fernandina. He had wins by pinning Interlachen’s Logan Juraszek in 39 seconds, Ed White’s Isaac Smith in 2:32 and Gainesville’s Elijah Martin in 1:58. Banda defeated West Nassau’s Kolton Wright by a 15-0 technical fall.

All of White’s wins were in head-to-head competition. The 165-pound-class wrestler pinned Fernandina’s Logan Fancher in 3:31, Interlachen’s Gary Keen in 3:03, Ed White’s Jacob Jurtzke in 1:05, Gainesville’s Tevin Greer in 19 seconds and West Nassau’s Chris Messer in 1:42.

Aiden Scott (120 class), Jonathon Armstrong (126) and Miguel Rivera (150) each had four wins on the day.

Scott pinned Fernandina’s Carson Sawyer in 37 seconds, Interlachen’s Jayden Perry in 2:51 and Ed White’s Gunner Ganey in 53 seconds. Scott also earned a win by forfeit in the match against West Nassau.

All four of Armstrong’s wins were by forfeit in the matches against Fernandina, Ed White, Gainesville and West Nassau.

Rivera pinned Interlachen’s Kenneth Swift in 36 seconds, Ed White’s Quincy Lester in 57 seconds and West Nassau’s Riley Atkins in 2:22. He also earned a win by forfeit against Gainesville.

Wyatt Acevedo (144) earned two wins, pinning Interlachen’s Keegan Brown in 57 seconds and West Nassau’s Ian Blanton in 1:17.

Jayden Prevatt (132) earned one win by forfeit against Ed White.
