BHS boys conclude regular season with 47-44 win over Madison

Four players scored in double figures as the Bradford High School boys basketball team concluded the regular season with a 47-44 win over host Madison County on Feb. 5.

The Tornadoes (10-10) outscored the Cowboys 20-8 in the fourth quarter.

Chalil Cummings scored 13 points, while Amari Jones and Jontez Williams each had 11. Williams added five rebounds, four steals and three assists.

Dae’Jon Shanks scored 10 points and had eight rebounds, five steals and four assists.

Torin Brazell added two points and nine rebounds.

Bradford entered the game off a 61-55 win over visiting North Marion on Feb. 1.

The Tornadoes got 11 points each from Cummings and Robbie Simmons-Godwin, nine points each from Williams and Shayne Davis, six points from Keith Ardley, five points each from Jones and Hunter Crawford, three points from Bernard Nichols and two points from Jametrius Pringle.

Davis led the team in assists with four, while Cummings and Jones each had three.

Cummings, Jones and Simmons-Godwin each grabbed four rebounds.

Bradford, the top-ranked team in Region 3-1A and the ninth-ranked team overall in Class 1A, was scheduled to play a semifinal game in the District 6 tournament on Wednesday, Feb. 9, at 6 p.m. The Tornadoes, who are the tournament’s top seed, were to play either fourth-seed Union County or fifth-seed Fort White.

The tournament, which is being hosted by Bell High School, concludes with the championship game on Friday, Feb. 11, at 7:30 p.m. If the Tornadoes are in that game, they will play second-seed Bell, third-seed Dixie County or sixth-seed Branford.

The champion earns an automatic berth in the Region 3 playoffs.
