Chason Clark, the only state qualifier from Bradford High School, finished 11th in his weight class at the April 15 Florida High School Athletic Association Boys Weightlifting Finals, which were held in Lakeland.

Clark, competing in the 199-pound class, had a clean and jerk of 245 and a bench press of 315 to finish with a 560-pound total. His clean and jerk total was a personal record by 20 pounds.

Keystone Heights’ Bryson Wester and Bolles’ Jackson Brill, who were ninth and 10th, respectively, each had a total that was 5 pounds better than Clark’s.

Clark was only 15 pounds away from earning a medal, which is awarded for a top-six finish. If he had compiled a 575-pound overall total, he would’ve tied with Marianna’s Isaiah Clemons, Union County’s Thomas Williams and South Sumter’s Ty Kadur for the fifth-highest total and would’ve been awarded fifth place with the weigh-in tiebreaker.
