BHS defeats Ed White 28-0 in flag football

Bradford High School capped the regular season in flag football with a 28-0 win over visiting Ed White on April 9.

Nichelle Brown caught seven passes for 120 yards and three touchdowns and had 65 yards and one touchdown on three rushing attempts.

Quarterback Ar’Nayshia Griffin, who rushed for 75 yards on 10 carries, completed 11 of 18 passes for 155 yards.

On defense, the Tornadoes got one interception each from Griffin and Cherish Bing.

Bradford (10-2) is the number-one seed in the District 4-1A tournament and will host fourth seed Newberry or fifth seed Florida School for the Deaf and Blind in a semifinal game on Tuesday, April 15, at 6 p.m. If the Tornadoes win, they’ll host the championship game on Thursday, April 17, at 6 p.m.

Santa Fe is the second seed, while Keystone and Palatka are the third and sixth seeds, respectively.

Prior to its regular-season finale, Bradford went 1-2, suffering its first loss of the season by a score of 20-19 in an overtime game at Buchholz on April 1.

The Tornadoes led 6-0 at halftime, but the Class 3A Bobcats took advantage of a long run to score on their first possession of the second half. An interception set up a second score.

Brown had a touchdown run in the fourth quarter as Bradford evened the score at 13-13.

Buchholz had the first series in overtime, with Taylor Booth catching a touchdown pass from Isabella Alexander. Dunae Chappell’s catch on the one-point conversion attempt put the Bobcats up 20-13.

The Tornadoes answered, with Brown catching a touchdown pass from Griffin, but Bradford’s pass on the conversion attempt was intercepted.

On April 3, Bradford defeated host Middleburg 20-19, with the defense getting two interceptions from Bing and one interception each from Brown and Rhianna Davis.

Griffin completed 17 of 22 passes for 190 yards on two touchdowns, with Brown catching both scoring tosses.

Brown finished with seven receptions for 90 yards, while Bing and Davis each caught four passes for 40 yards.

Griffin also rushed for 25 yards and a touchdown on five carries.

The Tornadoes traveled to Tallahassee on April 8 for a showdown between top-10 Class 1A teams. Florida High, which is ranked third, defeated seventh-ranked Bradford 13-7.

Brown caught eight passes for 100 yards and a touchdown, while also rushing for 40 yards on six carries.

Griffin completed 16 of 23 passes for 150 yards.

The defense got one interception each from Bing, Davis and Griffin.

It was the fourth straight win for Florida High (11-3).
