BHS defeats UCHS 5-2 in girls tennis

Bradford High School swept doubles play and recorded three wins in singles matches in defeating visiting Union County 5-2 in a Feb. 28 girls tennis match.

The Tigers (0-7) got their wins at number-one and number-two singles, with Jordan Hendricks defeating Lexie Wells 8-2 and Morgyn Kirby defeating Reagan Harris 8-3.

Bradford (2-4) won the remainder of the singles matches. Brooklyn Reddish defeated Bailey Handley 8-3 at the number-three spot, while Caitlyn Jackson defeated Jewel Dekle 8-2 at number four. In the number-five singles match, Mary-Jane Lebert defeated Abigail Gainey 8-8 (7-6).

In doubles play, Wells and Harris teamed up to defeat Hendricks and Handley 8-8 (7-6), while Reddish and Jackson recorded an 8-6 win over Hendricks and Handley.

The Tornadoes opened the season with a 7-0 loss to Eastside on Feb. 7 and then lost 5-2 at Palatka on Feb. 14. Wells earned an 8-6 win against Palatka and also teamed up with Harris for an 8-2 win in doubles.

Bradford’s first win came against host West Nassau by a score of 4-3 on Feb. 16. Harris and Jackson had wins of 8-6 and 8-4, respectively, in singles play. Both doubles teams won: Wells and Harris by a score of 8-2 and Reddish and Jackson by a score of 8-8 (10-6).

The Tornadoes, after a 6-0 loss to Ridgeview on Feb. 21, lost 4-3 at Palatka on Feb. 23. The Palatka wins all came in singles play: Reddish 8-5, Lebert 8-2 and Kasey Thompson 8-5.
