Bradford High School got 26 points and 10 rebounds from Ar’Nayshia Griffin in defeating visiting Eastside 49-39 on Dec. 1 to improve to 2-1
The Tornadoes held just a one-point lead at the half, but then outscored Eastside 16-6 in the third quarter to build a 38-27 lead.
Eastside hit a couple of three-pointers early in the third to take a lead. Bradford didn’t get on the board until Griffin scored with 3:48 remaining in the quarter. Griffin later went 2 for 2 at the foul line to tie the score at 27-27.
Riley Shuford went 4 for 4 on two trips to the foul line to give the Tornadoes the lead for good.
Griffin scored on a drive to the basket to put Bradford up 33-27.
After two free throws by Cayson Hampton, Shuford drained a three-pointer with 8 seconds on the clock, sending the Tornadoes into the final quarter leading 38-27.
Bradford got 21 points at the foul line, with Griffin, Hampton and Shuford combining for all but one of those points.
Besides her team highs in points and rebounds, Griffin led the team in steals with four.
Hampton and Shuford grabbed five and four rebounds, respectively, with each scoring nine points. Hampton also had three steals.
The Tornadoes also got three points from Ky’lee Johnson and two points from Wynter Barrington.
Bradford will host Hilliard on Thursday, Dec. 4, at 6:30 p.m. The Tornadoes then travel to play Newberry on Wednesday, Dec. 10, at 6:30 p.m.
