After a number of lopsided wins to open the season, the Bradford High School girls flag football team has proven it can win tough, close contests as well. Three days after a 13-8 win over Middleburg, the Tornadoes defeated host Suwannee 13-12 on March 9.
Nichelle Brown caught two touchdown passes from Ar’Nayshia Griffin and finished with seven receptions for 120 yards.
Griffin completed 17 of 24 passes for 240 yards. Kimber Woods caught four passes for 55 yards, while Jada Hankerson caught three passes for 40 yards. Khamyra Hankerson had three receptions for 25 yards.
Brown led the defense with six tackles, while Griffin made an interception.
The Tornadoes (6-0) entered the game off a 30-0 win at Orange Park on March 7 that saw Griffin rush for two scores and pass for another.
Griffin rushed for 85 yards on seven carries and completed 12 of 17 passes for 190 yards.
Brown rushed for 75 yards and a touchdown on six carries and caught one touchdown pass and seven passes overall for 110 yards. She also scored on special teams with a 65-yard punt return.
Destiny Crum caught one pass for 35 yards, while Woods had three receptions for 20 yards.
On defense, Griffin made two interceptions, while Brown had one.
Alexis Berry led the team in tackles with seven. Ajiyah Jackson, who had two sacks, finished with five tackles.
The Tornadoes host Baker County on Tuesday, March 14, at 5:30 p.m.
