BHS’ Holder qualifies for cross country regionals

Bradford High School missed out on a regional berth as a team by one place, but boys team member Tristan Holder earned the right to advance as an individual at the District 2-2A meet, which was held Oct. 27 at Bishop Kenny in Jacksonville.

The top eight teams will advance to the Region 1 meet, which will be hosted by The Bolles School at Jacksonville’s New World Sports Complex on Friday, Nov. 5. Bradford finished ninth in the boys team standings, with Santa Fe earning the last regional-qualifying spot.

Also earning the right to advance were the top three individuals not on one of the eight qualifying teams. Bradford’s Holder was the third-highest finisher not on one of those teams. He placed 28th overall in the 147-member field with a time of 18:24, earning the last regional spot ahead of Fort White’s Peighton Simard, who was 31st with a time of 18:41.

Jaleel Easley also finished in the top half of the field for Bradford, crossing the line with a 40th-place time of 19:11.

Also competing for the boys team were Jordan Barton (20:31), Silas Markwich (21:40) and Tristen Lindsey (24:23).

In the 126-member girls race, the Tornadoes’ Lindsey McCoy fell one spot shy of qualifying for regionals. She placed 51st overall with a time of 23:52, which resulted in her being the fourth-highest individual not on a regional-qualifying team. Palatka’s Ymira Passmore earned the last regional spot as an individual with a 44th-place time of 23:12.

Bradford’s Alissa Reddish wasn’t far behind McCoy, placing 53rd with a time of 24:10. Alyssa Hunt also finished in the top half of the field with a 60th-place time of 24:31.

Also competing for the Tornadoes were Natalie Thomas (24:59), Layne Loper (28:25) and Holly Holt (29:24).

The Tornadoes placed 10th in the girls team standings.
