BHS, KHHS, UCHS baseball players earn recognition on all-area teams

Keystone’s Austin Smith earned first-team Gainesville Sun Big-School All-Area honors.

Bradford, Keystone Heights and Union County high school baseball players were placed on all-area teams produced by three publications, with Keystone’s Guage Barry, Jeffrey Brugh and Austin Smith earning some of the highest honors.

Keystone’s Smith, a senior infielder, was named to the Gainesville Sun’s Big-School All-Area first team after batting .400, which was second on the team. He led the Indians in doubles (10) and RBI (32) and was second in hits (38).

Smith’s teammate Barry, a senior outfielder and pitcher, was named to the Mainstreet Daily News/Bosshardt Realty All-Area Big-School team as an outfielder. Barry batted a team-high .420 and was second in doubles (6) and third in RBI (19).

Barry was also a Florida Times-Union All-First Coast second-team selection as an outfielder.

Union junior outfielder Brugh was named to the Mainstreet Daily News/Bosshardt Realty All-Area Small-School team after leading the Tigers in hits with 38 and with a .365 batting average.

Brugh was also a Gainesville Sun Small-School All-Area second-team selection.

Keystone junior infielder Destin Harnage was a second-team Gainesville Sun Big-School All-Area pick. He led the Indians with 39 hits and was third in batting average at .394.

Harnage also received All-First Coast honorable mention, as did teammates Smith and senior pitcher Ty Mitzel.

Union junior infielder/pitcher Erick Lasseter earned All-First Coast honorable mention as a utility player.

Lasseter was one of four Union players to earn Mainstreet Daily News/Bosshardt Realty Small-School honorable mention, joining senior infielder/pitcher Devin Diggs, senior outfielder Trenton Klein and senior infielder Jake Walker.

Harnage, Mitzel and Smith earned Mainstreet Daily News/Bosshardt Realty Big-School honorable mention along with two other Keystone players: junior outfielder/pitcher Ethan Franklin and senior infielder Andrew Wilson.

Bradford players earning Mainstreet Daily News/Bosshardt Realty Big-School honorable mention were junior infielder/pitcher Avery Burgin, junior outfielder Breion Johnson, freshman infielder/outfielder Kaedan Parks, sophomore outfielder/pitcher Patrick Pendarvis, junior infielder/pitcher Ryland Rike and senior outfielder/pitcher Matthew Stafford.
