Addyson Hinds went 3 for 3, but the rest of the Bradford High School softball team was a combined 3 for 16 in a 14-1, five-inning loss to visiting Suwannee on Feb. 24.

Hinds hit a solo homer in the bottom of the first, but there was little else in the way of highlights as the Tornadoes fell to 1-2 on the season. Suwannee had a 3-1 lead before scoring 11runs in the fourth and fifth innings.

It was nothing like Bradford’s offensive outing in its previous game as the Tornadoes had 17 hits — two of which were home runs by Takeirra Bakken — in a 26-21 win over host Gainesville on Feb. 22.

The Tornadoes scored nine runs in the top of the seventh to come from behind for the win. Masey Padgett hit a bases-loaded double that plated two runs, while Hinds hit an RBI double. Bradford also got runs courtesy of Kirsten Hodges, Summer Sutton, Amber Wynn, Kallie Yowell and Keegan Yowell.

Bakken helped get the game off to an explosive start with a grand slam in the first inning, which also featured an RBI single by Rylie Blankenship.

Kallie Yowell and Keegan Yowell each had an RBI in the second to put Bradford up 7-0. Hinds and Padgett each had an RBI in the third inning to help the Tornadoes take a 9-8 lead into the fourth.

Bradford scored six in the fourth, with Padgett hitting a two-run double, Bakken hitting a one-run double and Blankenship, Hinds and Wynn each drawing a bases-loaded walk.

It was 18-15 in favor of Gainesville when Bakken hit a two-run homer in the top of the sixth. The Hurricanes scored three runs in the bottom of the inning, but Keegan Yowell held them to no runs in the seventh.

Padgett and Bakken finished 4 for 4 and 4 for 5, respectively. Both of Bakken’s hits that weren’t home runs were doubles as she finished with seven RBI. Padgett, who hit three doubles, had five RBI.

Hinds went 3 for 6 with two doubles and three RBI, while Blankenship was 2 for 3 with two RBI.

Kallie Yowell had two RBI, while Hodges, Wynn and Keegan Yowell each had one.

Bradford played Buchholz this past Tuesday (Feb. 28) and will travel to play Orange Park on Monday, March 6, at 7 p.m.
