Host Orange Park scored six unanswered runs in defeating the Bradford High School softball team 6-3 on March 6.
Bradford (2-3) took the lead with three runs in the top of the third. Tinsley Higginbotham walked, while Addyson Hinds reached on an error. Masey Padgett then hit an RBI single, while a Kirsten Hodges single drove in two.
The Raiders answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning after their first two batters reached on errors.
Orange park took the lead with a two-run fifth, with one of the runs scored by a batter who was hit by a pitch and later brought home on an error.
Hodges finished 3 for 3, while the rest of the team went 1 for 22.
Bradford entered the game off a 15-0, four-inning win over visiting Buchholz on Feb. 28.
Hinds’ two-run homer in the first inning provided the Tornadoes with all the runs they’d need as pitcher Keegan Yowell threw a complete-game shutout. Yowell gave up five hits and struck out four.
The Tornadoes pushed five runs across in the second, getting a two-run double from Takeirra Bakken, a two-run single from Padgett and a one-run single from Hodges.
Hinds, who went 4 for 4 with four RBI, drove in two runs on a single as part of a six-run third.
Bakken and Padgett each went 3 for 4, with Padgett driving in four runs and Bakken driving in two.
Hodges and Kallie Yowell each went 2 for 2, with Hodges driving in two runs and Yowell driving in one.
Amber Wynn drove in a run on a hit in her only at-bat.
Bradford will return to action on Tuesday, March 14, when it hosts Baker County at 6:30 p.m. The Tornadoes will host Yulee on Thursday, March 16, at 6 p.m.
