Bradford High School’s softball team was held to two hits in a 12-2, six-inning loss to host Bishop Snyder in a District 3-2A tournament semifinal game on April 28.
The third seed Tornadoes (10-11) scored the game’s first two runs and led 2-1 before the second seed Cardinals (14-9) scored 11 runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
Keegan Yowell led off the top of the first for Bradford with a walk. She advanced to second on a Kingslee Phillips sacrifice bunt before stealing third and scoring on an error with two outs.
Bradford added a run in the third inning, which began with a Kolee Lemire walk. She advanced to second on a Phillips ground out, which was the second out of the inning. Kallie Yowell hit a line drive into center field to bring Lemire home and make it a 2-0 game.
Bishop Snyder’s Gabriella Rogers reached on an error with one out in the fourth. Courtesy runner Alessandra Ruiz advanced to second on a wild pitch and then moved to third on a single by Faith Bennett. Amelia Biroschik’s ground out brought a run in to make the score 2-1.
The Cardinals were held to two hits through the first four innings by pitcher Bailey Smith, but after Lola Aberly reached on an error to lead off the bottom of the fifth, Bishop Snyder got three consecutive hits, with Caitlyn Boshell’s double driving in two runs. Two ground outs resulted in runs scoring as the Cardinals took a 5-2 lead.
Boshell hit a three-run homer as part of a seven-run sixth inning, which ended when a two-run single by Aberly enforced the mercy rule.
