Bradford High School senior softball players Kallie Yowell and Keegan Yowell signed their letters of intent to play at Cuthbert, Georgia’s Andrew College during a May 2 ceremony in the BHS media center.

“I’m really excited and just ready to start a new chapter,” Keegan said.

Kallie, who is Keegan’s twin sister, said, “I’m stressed about the next journey, but it is very exciting because of all the work I’ve put in.”

Playing college ball is, as you might imagine, a dream come true. So, too, is being able to do it together.

“We’ve always wanted to stay together,” Keegan said, while Kallie added, “I’m really excited because I get to stick with someone I know already. We’ve grown together.”

Keegan said she likes the community that Andrew College is located in, while Kallie said she likes the fact that the school has a good nursing program and that it’s not a big school, allowing for teachers to “fully focus on you in class.”

Kallie also added, “The softball coach is super nice and willing to help you learn as you go. They’re really nice people.”

This past season, Kallie, who played third base, batted .333 for the Tornadoes, scoring 17 runs and finishing third on the team in RBI with 16. She was second on the team in doubles with five.

Keegan, who played shortstop, batted .246 and scored a team-high 23 runs. She had 13 RBI, was third on the team in doubles with four and led the team in stolen bases with eight.

The sisters each had two home runs.

When it comes to their at-bats as they prepare to adapt to the collegiate level, Kallie said adjusting to the pitching will be a key, while Keegan said she needs to remain positive and “don’t stress as much when you’re up there.”

As for playing in the field, Keegan said her focus is to “give it your all,” while Kallie said her key will to be able to put bad plays behind her.

“If I make an error, don’t focus so much on the error and just move on and always know there are more plays,” Kallie said.

Kallie admitted it’ll probably be a little stressful the first time she steps onto the field as a college player. Keegan said the moment will be “amazing,” and believes she won’t be nervous, thanks to having Kallie with her.

“I’m not going to be as stressed because I’ll have her at my side,” Keegan said.
