BHS volleyball team loses to Newberry in District 7-1A semifinals

Bradford High School’s third-seeded volleyball team played in the semifinals of the District 7-1A tournament, losing 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-22) to second-seed Newberry on Oct. 19 at Union County High School.

The Tornadoes (9-11) went 2-2 in their final four regular-season matches before the tournament.

On Oct. 11, Bradford lost 3-1 (25-19, 25-21, 21-25, 25-16) to host Palatka. Takeirra Bakken had 25 digs, nine assists, six kills, five service aces and three blocks, while Ashley Brady had 12 assists and eight digs. Rylie Blankenship led the team in digs with 33, while Kencie Wainwright and Ayanna Pringle had 18 and 12, respectively. Wainwright also had six kills, while Pringle had two blocks.

Ajiyah Jackson had 10 blocks and five kills, while Kiersten Hodges added eight digs.

Jackson recorded 11 kills and 11 blocks in a 3-2 (25-8, 20-25, 18-25, 25-19, 15-6) win over host Eastside on Oct. 12.

Blakenship had a team-high 46 digs, with the following also reaching double figures: Bakken (22), Brooklynn Reddish (13), Wainwright (11) and Reagan Harris (11).

Bakken added 22 assists, six aces and three blocks, while Raven Ford had five blocks and five aces.

Harris almost reached double figures in kills with nine, while Brady set up teammates for seven assists. Reddish also had six aces.

Bradford got 52 and 50 digs from Bakken and Blankenship, respectively, in a 3-2 (25-22, 21-25, 23-25, 25-21, 15-6) win over visiting Baldwin on Oct. 13.

It was another double-double for Jackson in kills (10) and blocks (13), while Bakken added 17 assists, seven aces, six kills and six blocks.

Ford had six blocks and 15 digs, while Harris and Pringle each had five blocks. Harris also had 10 digs and four aces, with Pringle also adding nine digs and six kills.

Reddish and Brady had 15 and 10 digs, respectively, with Reddish adding four aces and Brady adding five assists. Blankenship had six assists, while Wainwright had eight digs, five kills and two blocks.

The Tornadoes hosted Branford on Oct. 14, losing 3-0.
