STARKE— A Starke man initially sentenced to six months in jail and probation was sent to prison for 13 months after he failed to report to his probation officer.

Bryce Daryl Bolinger, 35, of Starke was sentenced in April to 180 days in jail and three years’ probation for the Dec. 18, 2021, offense of battery on a person 65 years or older.

According to an arrest report, the defendant told Starke police he and the victim were arguing over “something stupid” at an Andrews Street thrift store and started fighting.

The victim and another witness said Bolinger approached the victim, punched him in the face, and put him in a headlock while repeating, “go to sleep.”

The victim said he tried to fight off Bolinger because he has a history of strokes and can’t tolerate any constriction of his neck.

On June 23, a probation officer reported that after the defendant served his jail sentence, he failed to report to probation and changed his residence without notifying the officer.

On July 13, Circuit Judge James M. Colaw revoked and terminated Bolinger’s probation and sent the man to state lockup.
