Boney, Smith earn regional berths in field events at district meet

Union County High School track and field members Brycen Boney and Taleyah Smith each earned a fourth-place finish at today’s District 3-2A field-events meet at Santa Fe High School.

The running events will take place Thursday, April 21, at 10:30 a.m. at Santa Fe.

Top-four finishers in each event earn the right to advance to the Region 1 finals, which will be held Thursday, May 5, at Tommy Oliver Stadium in Panama City.

Boney recorded a fourth-place distance of 18-2.5 in the boys long jump, while Smith was fourth in the girls discus with a throw of 76-5.

Tucker Baynard just missed qualifying for regionals in the shot put, placing fifth with a distance of 33-5.25.

The boys team also got a seventh-place finish from Thomas Williams in the long jump (17-7).

In the girls long jump, Taliyah Harper and CeCe Thomas were sixth and seventh, respectively, with distances of 13-8.25 and 12-6. Jahlivah Woodall was 10th (11-9).

Smith and Jaliah Hatcher were eighth and ninth, respectively, in the shot put, each with a distance of 25-2.5. Deashia Gainer was 11th (23-1.25).

Hatcher placed 10th in the discus (63-11).
