Bright has 17th double-double in 39-23 KHHS girls hoops win

Kiley Channell and Dezaray Bright each scored 12 points as the Keystone Heights High School girls basketball team defeated host Baldwin 39-23 on Jan. 20.

The Indians (15-7) outscored Baldwin 15-3 in the first quarter and held a 24-9 lead at halftime.

Bright grabbed 12 rebounds, making it the 17th game this season in which she’s reached double digits in points and rebounds. She also had three assists.

Keystone got six points from Jaynell Hill, five points from Yasmin Bryant and two points each from Rexi Lewis and Kadence Massey.

Kaitlin Brown and McKinlee Kirkland had six and five rebounds, respectively, while Channell led the team in steals with three.

It was the second straight win for the Indians, following a two-game losing streak that began with a 50-37 loss at St. Augustine on Jan. 13.

Despite that loss, Bright had a monster game, scoring 16 points and grabbing 21 rebounds. Channell added 13 points, while Brown and Lewis scored six and two, respectively. Brown also had six rebounds.

On Jan. 16, Keystone lost 37-36 to Fleming Island in a Martin Luther King Jr. tournament at Orange Park. Channell had 13 points, 10 rebounds and four steals, while Bright had seven points, eight rebounds, four steals and three assists.

Brown and Hill each scored six points, with Brown grabbing seven rebounds and Hill grabbing six.

Lewis and Massey each chipped in two points.

Keystone put an end to the brief skid on Jan. 19 as Bright and Channell each posted a double-double in a 41-33 win over visiting Fort White.

Bright had 12 points, 12 rebounds and three assists, while Channell had 12 points, 10 rebounds, eight steals and three assists.

The Indians also got 10 points from Bryant, three points from Hill and two points each from Brown and Massey.

Brown and Massey grabbed eight and six rebounds, respectively. Massey also had three assists, while Hill had three steals.

Keystone played Union County this past Monday (Jan. 23) and will conclude the regular season with a road game against Orange Park on Thursday, Jan. 26, at 7 p.m.
