BROOKER — Brooker Community School is making plans and taking action to get details in place for the opening of the new school in August. The April 12 board meeting detailed the promotion and recruitment plans ahead.

School Principal Felecia Moss will be visiting potential recruitment sites as well as making herself available for one-on-one meetings. Moss spoke at the Greater Bell Church and is hoping for other invitations to talk about the school. She is in contact with the Acorn Clinic and with Love’n & Learning Child Care Center, along with other interested places.

To offer folks a chance to meet with her in person, Moss will be holding an “open house” each Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the school. That is the perfect time for those interested in applying for a position to have a private discussion or for parents of potential students to get questions answered.

Not all the recruitment work falls to the principal. Board members and volunteers will form teams of two to fan out and hold enrollment events regionally in areas that include LaCrosse, Brooker, Hampton, Monteocha and Worthington Springs.

The school is a public school and offers free and open enrollment. As a charter school they can operate with smaller classes and develop their own curriculum, if it complies with Florida Department of Education standards. The school will serve grades K-5 and will provide transportation within a six-mile radius of the school.

Bradford Community School will hold a budget workshop with their CPA, Richard Trainor, on Thursday, May 11, at 5:30 p.m. at the school cafeteria. The regular monthly Community School Board meeting will follow immediately (in lieu of the regular meeting held on second Wednesday of each month).
