STARKE— A Canadian-based manufacturer of construction materials is close to announcing a new plant near the intersection of US 301 and Clay County Road 218, four miles north of the Bradford-Clay County line.

The development, labeled as “Project Gator” by Clay County officials, will bring around 100 high-wage jobs to the area.

A county source said the company is now in negotiations with officials over the construction of an access road.

Crawford Powell, director of Clay’s Economic Development Corporation, said the likelihood of the deal going through is 9.5 on a scale of 1 to 10.

“That’s assuming the economy doesn’t experience any major disruptions,” Powell said.

Powell added that the company plans to make a $200 million investment in the project.
